Telehealth Parity Part Of Tax Overhaul Bill

Tuesday, May 18, 2021

After weeks of negotiation, lawmakers included a top House priority in the final tax compromise bill. The amended SF 619 would require health insurers to compensate mental health providers at the same rate for telehealth consultations as for in-person visits. The bill cleared its last hurdle today, passing the House on a bipartisan vote, 64-28.

House Republicans introduced a number of telehealth-related bills this session, most of which died after failing to meet procedural deadlines. Telehealth parity, however, remained a major priority for the chamber. Before reaching an agreement with the Senate, the House had included the provision in its Health and Human Services budget bill (HF 891) and an amended Senate psychiatric bed tracking bill (SF 524).
