Iowa Insurance Division's Omnibus Bill Clears Iowa House

Friday, March 26, 2021

The Iowa Insurance Division’s omnibus bill passed the House on a bipartisan vote Thursday, 67-28. Democrats made up the entire opposition. HF 838 advanced with an amendment proposed by Commerce Committee Chair Shannon Lundgren (R-Peosta). It would require the Legislative Council to appoint an interim committee to study health insurance mandates, including fiscal impacts on the state, carriers, and patient premiums. The omnibus is now under consideration by the Senate Ways and Means Committee. As a Ways and Means bill, HF 838 is exempt from next Friday’s second funnel deadline, making it a live issue for the remainder of session.
